Description:
|
This terracotta colored raincoat, made of a canvas, was a signature style originated by Cashin in 1952. Further indication of the Cashin style can be seen through the leather lining and topstitching at the collar, natural-waist, apex of the patch pockets, and the gathered, raglan-sleeve cuffs. Her legendary use of hardware can be seen in the brass turnlocks, used as midline and pocket closures, as well as in the belt loops on the back of the coat. According to Stephanie Iverson, curator and scholar of Bonnie Cashin's collections, "Her introduction of the brass toggle on clothing, especially for 'pocket-purses,' which she was inspired to create based off the closures that were on her convertible top; helped lead to her being the first designer of Coach purses in the 1960's." This type of hardware is still used in Coach products today. The inside is lined with cotton jersey in hunter green, terracotta, and ivory plaid, (CAM#46)
