From Pueblo Indian Painting. p. 18: This bird is one of the four figures used in the ceremonial celebration held by the "Summer People" of San Ildefonso and knnown as the Ceremony of the Snow Bird (see Plates 45, 46, 47). In the pueblos of the Rio Grande the inhabitants are generally divided for all ceremonies into two groups known as the "Summer" and the "Winter" people. Each group has its own religious chiefs or caciques.
