Described in Vol. II, p. 101. The descriptions for plates 195 and 196 are switched in the text. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "Ni-a-co-mo, to Fix with the Foot; a brave." Probably painted at Fort Leavenworth in 1830 (Truettner, 1979, p. 213). This plate does not include arrows in the hair and features of the robe found in the original oil.
