Described in Vol. II, p. 27. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "Le-shaw-loo-lah-le-hoo, the Big Elk; Chief of the band." Probably painted at Fort Leavenworth in 1832 (Truettner, 1979, p. 173). This print does not include the roach seen on the figure in the original oil.
