Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "La-doo-ke-a, the Buffalo Bull; his medicine or totem (the head of a buffalo bull) painted on his face and breast, his bow and arow in his hands." Probably painted at Fort Leavenworth in 1832 (Truettner, 1979, p. 171).
