Described in Vol. II, pp. 5-6. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "View on Upper Missouri--'Blackbird's Grave.' Where 'Blackbird,' Chief of the Omahas, was buried on his favourite war-horse, which was alive; 1100 miles above St. Louis." Originally painted in 1832 (Truettner, 1979, p. 245).
