Description:
|
Described in Vol. I, p. 204. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "Stan-au-pat, the Bloody Hand, Chief of the tribe. His face painted red with vermilion, scalping-knife in his hand; wearing a beautiful dress." Originally painted in 1832 (Truettner, 1979, p. 176). This print does not indicate the vermilion face paint of the original oil.
