Description:
|
Described in Vol. II, p. 98-99. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "Ah-ton-we-tuck, the Cock Turkey; repeating his prayer from the stick in his hand as described above." Probably painted at Fort Leavenworth in 1830 (Truettner, 1979, p. 209). Like that of Foremost Man, this figure is wearing a choker which appears to include a button or shell disk. He is also wearing a long necklace consisting of what appear to be either shells or dewclaws.
