Description:
|
Described in Vol. II, p. 75. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "Tunk-aht-oh-ye, the Thunderer (boy). Wun-pan-to-mee, the White Weasel (girl). This boy and girl, who had been for several years prisoners amongst the Osages, were purchased by the Indian Commissioner; the girl was sent home to her nation by the dragoons, and the boy was killed by a ram the day before we started. They were brother and sister." Originally painted in 1834 (Truettner, 1979, p. 162). This print lacks some of the features of the original oil, including feathers in the hair of the girl and her bracelet.
