Description:
Described in Vol. II, p. 70. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "Pawnee Village in Texas [now Oklahoma], at the base of a spur of the Rocky Mountains--lodges thatched with prairie-grass." Sketched by Joe Chadwick in 1834; Catlin painted the original oil in the period 1834-1835 (Truettner, 1979, p. 240).
