Description:
|
Described in Vol. II, pp. 17-21. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Precise image site not identified and not marked on locator map. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "View on Upper Missouri--Prairie Meadows burning, and a party of Indians running from it in grass eight or ten feet high. These scenes are terrific and hazardous in the extreme when the wind is blowing a gale." Probably painted originally in 1832 (Truettner, 1979, p. 248).
