ART WORKS Two portraits of Bear in the Forks of a Tree, painted by Charles Bird King (1785-1862) in Washington (D.C.) in 1837 are identified by Cosentino. The first (Cosentino: 387) is a full length portrait. Formerly in the collections of the Redwood Library & Athenaeum, Newport, Rhode Island, it was sold in 1970 and is in an unknown private collection. The second (Cosentino: 388) is a half-length portrait in the Chicago Historical Society, Chicago, Illinois.
