Once they arrived at the fairgrounds, the hundreds of Turners were greeted by the appearance of a large country fair. A tent city and a review stand were erected for the competitors and judges, and booths selling German sausages and lager beer dotted the area. Other booths and hospitality tents welcomed visitors and provided comfort for the athletes.
The heat that particular June was considerable, and the medical tents had a steady flow of spectators and competitors who wilted in the steamy weather. |
