Description:
|
Construction began in the fall of 1927 and the building was completed in May 1930. Originally referred to as the Recreation Center, the building was open to the community and even served as a home for the Branch Library which had outgrown its previous building. In 1931 several athletic groups were using the building. These include the Mariemont Rifle Club, Mariemont Archery Club, and candle pin bowling leagues. In 1931 the Guild Players (later called Mariemont Players) were founded in 1937. Men's softball and Knothole Baseball leagues were also started in 1939. In June, 1947, the Village took control of the tennis courts located next to the recreation center. In December of that same year the community church began to use the South wing of the building for church functions and activities. In July, 1950, the church formally occupied the entire recreation building and the name was changed to the Parish Center.
