Description:
This oversize brown leather poncho was a staple piece for Cashin in her day. UCLA's digital library mentions that she "devised ways to frame and flatter the body with simple geometry and luxury materials, hence her fondness for ponchos, mantles, capes, and togas." This particular poncho was likely to have been featured in Cashin's collection, "We Live as We Please," as were many of her "uncluttered, mobile and unselfconscious" garments. Cashin's love for mixing materials is evident in her use of both the leather and faux fur lining in this poncho. Her functional style is also apparent through the armholes, which are simple, large slits on both sides of the garment. The leather tie in the front pulls it all together in a very effortless manner, and the topstitching around the seams add a stylish detail. (CAM#164)
