Description:
|
"'Parkview' is Chateauesque, that is, in the French Renaissance Revival style sometimes known as Francois Ier or Francis I. The house has smooth-faced sandstone façade typical of Chateauesque. It has wall dormers pinnacled with balusters, a conical "candle snuffer" tower, and on the north side a porte cochere. Before the entrance sit two guardant lions, holding, shields, they came a little later. George B. Cox, Cincinnati's "boss" from the mid-1880s until his retirement of politics in 1912, had Samuel Hannaford and Sons design Parkview. In 1938, after the death of Cox's wife Caroline, the house came into the possession of the Cincinnati Union Bethel. For a while it served as a woman's dormitory; since 1948 the local Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity has occupied it."
