Description:
|
"The William Winter House is a fine example of Federal architecture. It is two-and-a-half stories in height with a gable roof, which is pierced by two, massive interior end chimneys. The interior of this stone house still contains much of the original black walnut woodwork. The Winter family was one of the earliest settlers of Tate Township. Their house has become a local landmark, not only because of its fine stone construction, but because of its association with 19th century trade in a fairly isolated region...Around 1850 a frame room was added to the rear of the house to be used as a general store. The Mount Olive Post Office was located in the old brick kitchen of the Winter home from 1848-1880."
