Small blurb under picture : "Martin St. arch. Through this magnificent, rusticated portal hardy pedestrians began the ascent from Martin Drive to Mount Adams. The arch was demolished in 1990 for Adams Landing." (332) Blurb in the body of the text reads : "Until recently a huge rusticated arched gate of white stone guarded the entrance on Martin Drive. On either side of the arch stretched massive battered walls. They probably contained the reservoir of 1853, once here. With the Front Street Pumping Station opposite us riverwards [sic], there had been reservoirs here or nearby since the early 19th century. The arched gate may also have formed part of the waterworks. Behind it was an impressive oval esplanade, also of stone, but covered with vines, undergrowth, and graffiti. Resembling a ruined garden of the Italian Renaissance, this complex, the most Piranesian spot in all Cincinnati, disappeared in 1990." (331)
