Description:
|
The Ida Street Bridge was dedicated on September 12, 1931 in the Cincinnati, Ohio neighborhood of Mount Adams. A reinforced concrete viaduct, the new Ida Street Bridge replaced its predecessor made from wood and wrought iron. A new bridge became necessary as transportation innovations such as the streetcar and the automobile required a stronger, more stable span. The newspaper the Times-Star reported on the day of the opening: "That structure is a revelation of what man can accomplish when the desire for beauty is wedded to the need for efficiency." The new structure was designed by architect J. R. Biedinger.
