Description:
|
In 1982 Procter & Gamble announced a huge addition to their already existing headquarters on Fifth Street between Main and Sycamore Streets in Cincinnati, Ohio. The original building was completed in 1956 by the New York firm of Voorhees, Walker, Smith & Smith. In 1972 Skidmore, Owings & Merrill created an addition. However, the most dramatic addition was the addition announced in 1982 and designed by the architectural firm of Kohn Pederson Fox. The construction was completed in 1985 and features two low-rise towers on the north and east edges of the adjoining city block. The structure also features an octagonal two-story entrance pavilion, a three-story auditorium, and a cafeteria pavilion. The capped towers of the design unite the Cincinnati skyline and the massive building now serves as a frame to the downtown area. In addition, at the street level a formal garden edged by pergolas was designed by Cincinnati-based landscape architects Bentley Meisner.
