Description:
|
"A number of prominent businessmen have lived in The Oaks, a 2.5-story brick house, part of which dates from the 1830s. George C. Knight, land developer, builder, and later mayor of College Hill, purchased the original 4-room cabin in the 1860s and began a series of improvements on the house. Colonel Lowe Emerson, the next owner, was president of the Emerson & Fisher Company, carriage builders, and a member of the city council. Peter G. Thompson purchased the estate in 1904 and lived here until Laurel Court was completed, then passed The Oaks to his son, Alexander." Alexander Thompson (c.1880-1939) served as president of the Hamilton and Ohio chambers of commerce, and was director of the United States Chamber of Commerce.
