Description:
Described in Vol. I, p. 132. Caption from Truettner catalog of Catlin's Indian Gallery. Entry from Catlin's 1848 catalog reads, "Game of 'Tchung-kee' of the Mandans, the principal and most valued game of that tribe. A beautiful athletic exercise, and one on which they often bet and risk all their personal goods and chattels." Originally sketched in 1832 and probably painted in the period 1832-1833 (Truettner, 1979, p. 266).
