Description:
ART WORKS Horan (Horan, 1986, p. 292) indicates that this portrait was painted by Charles Bird King (1785-1862) in Washington (D.C.) in 1828. The work is not listed in Cosentino; nor is there an entry in the Catalogue of Indian Paintings Belonging to the Government Collection which appeared in William J. Rhees' 1859 Guide to the Smithsonian Institution. A portrait by Henry Inman (1801-1846), entitled "Orator. Winnebago", formerly in the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, Harvard University (Peabody Number: 82-51-10\28251), is in a private collection (Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology Inventory).
