ART WORKS Horan (Horan, 1986, p. 272) indicates that the original was painted by Charles Bird King (1785-1862) in Washington (D.C.), date unknown. There is no listing for this portrait in Cosentino or in the Catalogue of Indian Paintings Belonging to the Government Collection which appeared in William J. Rhees' 1859 Guide to the Smithsonian Institution. This painting is unlocated. George Catlin (1796-1872) painted Dutch at Fort Gibson (Okla.) in 1834 (Truettner Gallery No. 284) (Truettner, 1979, p. 97, 222)
