ART WORKS Original (Cosentino: 376) painted by Charles Bird King (1786-1862) in Washington (D.C.) in 1830. This painting is listed as No. 110 in the Catalogue of Indian Paintings Belonging to the Government Collection which appeared in William J. Rhees' 1859 Guide to the Smithsonian Institution: "RED JACKET -- SENECA CHIEF (King, 1828)" (Viola, 1976, p. 145). It was destroyed in the Smithsonian fire of 1865. King painted another portrait of these individuals (Cosentino: 377) in Washington (D.C.) in 1830. This copy is owned by Thornton I.
